The Troupe

These sessions will be accessible and dedicated to those with complex needs who may find conventional theatre distant from their own form of expression.

Working on areas of Drama and Performance art that link to important developmental skills. Our classes will be tutored by highly skilled typical and non-neurotypical creatives, who work with patience, expertise and imagination to help our students on their personal journey. In addition to a core team running regular sessions; there will be opportunities for excellent outside practitioners to provide workshops on specific areas of interest.

We will be focusing creating an enriching experience for our participants to encourage confidence, communication and strengthen identity. Our classes will be a great way for children and young people to make new friends and really show of their talents and voices.

Through each week of classes we will follow a flexible structure filled with connection based activities where the floor is open for all forms of communications. We will usually start with a sensory provocation running with the theme. As the weeks progress we will record and sometimes film these interactions to form our response to the subject. We will lead sessions dedicated to learning different theatrical ways of relating to the sensory experience such as movement, story massage, music and soundscapes and anything else the Troupe are intrigued by.

If you are interested in having The Troupe set up at your school, college or as part of a community club, give us a message! We are happy to talk through bespoke sessions for a range of sensory explorers!

Areas of Focus

Expressive Space

Working with our students on free and creative movements to tell us a story they want to share. Our workshops include fun ways to get moving, including fun physical warm ups and dancing. Our tutors will help students participate without the pressure for regular speech or language, with any form of communication is encouraged. These workshops will be a in variety of form such as Dance, Expressive movement, and Performance art. The space is there for open and sensory communication that can have a multiple of benefits to mental health and wellbeing,

Connections and relationships

As well as important solo challenges, joining our young person's troupe is a chance for our students to work collaboratively with members of their community. We aim to build an accessible space with these young people for them to show off their talents. The young performers will be wearing down the barriers set before them as well as finding new relationships.

Behind the Camera

Opportunities to film or photograph will give the option to experiment with capturing mini film reels on their or others' work. There will also be chances for students to nominate their special interests for production and they can be the consultant for the project. Mixing filters, angles and colour to encourage focused observation we believe this is a great chance to work on self recognition and acceptance.
